Weberhaus

Today, the Weberhaus is an institution which brings together culture, creative artists and visitors and its doors are now wide open: from the street, you enter directly into the green angular inner courtyard which is used for theatre performances and open-air exhibitions in Summer as well as having been designed as an area for relaxation. The Café Weberhaus is visible through the glazed front. Smaller events are held at this meeting point.

Somewhat less quiet is the Jazz Cellar which offers a colourful and mixed musical programme and can be used as a platform for theatre performances, cabaret shows or readings.

The first floor of the building includes areas which have been transformed into a bright and welcoming library and collection of games which was opened in December 1990 following a great deal of work by volunteers. Regular events for children are held here including plays, craft afternoons, readings and puppet shows.

According to Dr. Georg Köhler, a folklorist and cultural ambassador for the city of Weiz, the gallery on the 1st floor and museum area on the 2nd are ‘not a stuffy exhibition space but rather designed to create a lively museum’.
